Another suicide at Achimota

A man believed to be in his early 30s has allegedly committed suicide at Achimota exactly 24 hours after a student jumped to her death at the University of Ghana.

The middle aged man was found near a tree with a rope near the Achimota main overpass.

Locals, however, suspect foul play. According to them, the rope found around the body is “too thin” and “can’t be used to facilitate suicide.”

Some also argue the body was found on the ground and “there are no cuts or traces on the branches of the tree” to suspect suicide.

Personnel of the Tesano Police command have barrowed the body of the deceased to the morgue for autopsy as they launch investigation into the incident.

Over the past two weeks suicide cases have dominated the headlines. Just this week, two young ladies have taken their lives in the Eastern and Greater Accra regions.

A 16-year-old Junior High School Student of Child of Hope Preparatory School at Akyem Osiem – Barbara Asante – was found hanging in the kitchen of her parents’ house at Akyem Tafo on Tuesday. The cause of death is, however, unknown. On Wednesday, a level 400 student of the University of Ghana jumped to her death.

She reportedly jumped from the balcony of the Akuafo Hall annex a room 407 after staying away from lectures several days.

Officials have served notice a suicide helpline will be instituted to help potential victims.
