Angry Ningo-Prampram youth lock up EC office

Angry NDC youth in the Ningo-Prampram constituency in the Greater Accra region have reportedly locked up the electoral commission’s office in the area in an attempt to stop the parliamentary primary there, Starr News has learnt.

The development comes on the back of allegations by the youth that several party members cannot find their names in the voters’ register to enable them vote in today’s primaries of the party.

According to the youth, who are mainly in the camp of aspirant Samuel George, over 2,000 names have been deleted from the register while other names that appeared in the register are without names and pictures.

They are calling on the Electoral Commission to postpone the elections until the original voters’ register is used for the election.

Starr News’ Benjamin Amuzu reports that the youth have locked up the EC office and have vowed not to allow the elections to go ahead.

George told Citi FM that “I am not calling for elections to be put on hold. The people of Ningo Prampram are calling for elections to be put on hold.

“They do not understand why names have been arbitrarily deleted especially from the Ningo Traditional area… Over 3,000 names have been deleted…even me as a candidate my name has been taken out, I’m told”.

But in reaction, incumbent MP E.T Mensah described the claims as mere lies intended to tarnish his image.

“Sam George is a liar, I haven’t met Ade Coker or any National Executive over our elections. He (Sam George) rather brought Macho men into the constituency yesterday saying the election will not come of today.

“On what authority was he saying that, he has no power to determine that? Since three days ago he has adopted certain strategies to have this election suspended. But we’re voting today, he’s losing and will lose badly,” he told Kasapa FM.
