Anglican priest cautions religious leaders against world pleasures

Kumasi, Feb. 2, GNA – The Dean of the Anglican Diocese of Kumasi, Very Reverend Festus Yeboah Asuamah, has condemned the deep involvement of some ministers of religion in the pleasures of the world, including lust for money.

He has therefore, advised Anglican priests to hold fast to what they have, instead of tolerating immorality and clamouring for the pleasures of the world.

Very Rev Asuamah was delivering the sermon at the installation service of two priests of the Church as Canons in the Diocese at the Saint Cyprian’s Anglican Cathedral in Kumasi on Sunday.

They are Venerable John Kingsley Mensah, the Archdeacon of Asante-Bekwai and Reverend Father George Kwesi Gyebi Ababio Ansah, the Vicar of the Emmanuel Church in the United Kingdom. Very Rev Asuamah who based his sermon on “The pitfalls of leadership”, reminded the new Canons and the clergy about the things that tempt them into disgrace, stressing that, “you should be mindful of women, wine and wealth”.

“Let us be careful about the lust of the eyes, materialism, greed and wealth and rather look unto Jesus, who is our perfector”, Rev. Asuamah emphasised.

The Dean commended Right Reverend Daniel Yinkah-Sarfo, the Diocesan Bishop for appointing the two new Canons to join the Cathedral chapter. By their appointment and installation, both Venerable Mensah and Rev Ansah have become senior priests and members of the Cathedral Chapter of the diocese and would act as advisors to the Bishop. Bishop Yinkah-Sarfo commended Rev. Father Ansah and the Anglican community in the UK for their assistance to the Kumasi Diocese.
