Andani youth accuse government of meddling in Dagbon crisis

Concerned Youth of the Andani Family have accused Government and the Northern Regional Minister, Salifu Saeed, of meddling in the Dagbon chieftaincy affairs.

According to the aggrieved young people, this regime must allow the Otumfuor Osei Tutu II Mediation Committee to arbitrate in the Dagbon chieftaincy crisis, rather than interfering in it. They warn that, if the interference persists, the next successor to the throne could be rejected by a section of his subjects.

At a well-attended media conference in Tamale, the Andani youth accused the Northern Regional Minister of meddling in the Dagbon dispute that degenerated into a crisis after the killing of the overlord, Yaa-Naa Yakubu Andani II, in 2002. The leader of the Concerned Youth, Basharu Daballi, called on politicians in general to stay away from the Dagbon chieftaincy feud and allow those that are well versed in Dagbon customary rites and tradition to mediate.

He cautioned that the youth would resist any further attempts by Government to interfere; urging rather that the regime should focus on finding the killers of Yaa-Naa Yakubu Andani II.
