Amoako-Tuffuor: Sir John is NPP’s repellent to NDC’s ‘Mosquito’

A founding father of the main opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Kwame Amoako-Tuffuor, has told Radio XYZ that his party’s General Secretary, Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie, popularly known as ‘Sir John’, is the NPP’s antidote to the governing party’s Johnson Asiedu Nketia, his opposite number, popularly known as ‘General Mosquito’.

According to Dr. Amoako-Tuffuor, ‘Sir John’, acclaimed by his party as the only ‘Sir’ in Ghanaian politics, is a perfect match for ‘General Mosquito’, equally acclaimed by his party as the only ‘General’ in Ghanaian politics.

Disagreeing with fellow founding father, Haruna Esseku’s recent lamentation that ‘Sir John’ has always been a “problem” for the NPP, Dr. Amoako-Tuffuor told XYZ Breakfast Show host, Moro Awudu on Tuesday that ‘Sir John’ is the NPP’s right answer to the NDC’s ‘General Mosquito’.

“No, I don’t think Sir John has been a problem for the NPP,” Dr. Amoako-Tuffuor asserted.

According to him, “lots of people on the ground love him because he comes out and bashes NDC the way General Mosquito bashes the NPP; this is the way people see him. Lots of people see him as a tough [match for the NDC]”.

He observed that the grassroots supporters of the NPP identify more with ‘Sir John’s’ speech mannerism and way of politicking.

Dr. Amoako-Tuffuor said the spirit of the low-level supporters of the NPP is always lifted by Sir John’s way of speaking.

“…If you think that you want a different polished language or whatever, remember, what are the other people on the ground thinking of him. They hail him…I have structures that go down to find out what is happening. This is why I’m supporting Sir John and his utterances”.
