Amnesty International Builds Capacity on Youth Advocacy up North

Amnesty International Ghana, a human rights advocacy group has organized a workshop for some youth in the three northern regions of Ghana. The workshop which was organized in the Northern regional capital brought ten participants each from the Upper West, Upper East and Northern region.
These three Northern regions as they are christened have gained notoriety for activities related to child labor, child trafficking and child molestation. This the workshop most relevant to the course of the youth, who do not only hold the keys to the future but are advocates for their underprivileged brothers and sisters.
The workshop which was a youth empowerment workshop in the area of human rights especially those pertaining to the youth and children as well. The participants were taken through several modules which sought to enlighten them on the need to uphold and advocate for the rights of under when they infringed upon.
According to Madam Bernice Naah, who is the campaign coordinator, ‘one of the key areas we intend to look at is my body my rights’. This she explained was the bane of the three Northern regions where the opinions of women don’t count coupled with sexual abuses.
In an interview with a participant known as Anita Atanga from Bolgatanga senior high school, ‘I have been enlightened on human rights and I have the zeal to protect the rights of others. She admonished amnesty international Ghana to organize more of such workshops to build capacity of many others.
There existed much enthusiasm and determination among the participants to return to their various regions advocating for the rights of all in their communities. They were thankful to amnesty international Ghana for opening such a door of opportunity to them.
