Amansie Central Assembly undertakes 1.4 billion-cedi school projects

Jacobu (Ash), Dec. 20, GNA – The Amansie Central District Assembly in the Ashanti Region has awarded a 1.4 billion-cedi contract for the construction of blocks of classrooms in four communities in the District.

The Jacobu SDA, Mile Nine, Suhyenso and Hiayeya Junior Secondary Schools (JSS) will each get blocks of three classrooms. Mr Kwame Asamoah-Boateng, the District Chief Executive, who announced this at Jacobu, said two other classroom projects at Apitisu and Tweapease had been awarded on contract. The DCE said the Assembly since its inception in 2004, had resolved to spend over 70 per cent of its resources to improve standard of education in the District.

The support in education ranged from the construction of classroom blocks to the provision of furniture and financing of other educational programmes.

Mr Asamoah-Boateng said these activities were geared towards developing the human resource base of the new district. He said apart from the Assembly’s projects, the Member of Parliament (MP) for the area, Mr Emmanuel Akwasi Gyamfi had also committed some funds into the educational sector.

=93The MP is currently assisting in the construction of three-unit classroom blocks at Hemang, Homase and Atia=94, the DCE said. Mr Asamoah-Boateng expressed regret that despite the Assembly’s efforts at improving educational facilities, there was a high truancy rate among pupils in the various towns and villages in the district. =93We have managed to put up beautiful classroom blocks but most parents have allowed their children to loiter around. This bad attitudes have been affecting the general performance of the children in the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE)=94, Mr Asamoah-Boateng lamented. 20 Dec. 06
