AMA takes over toilets and other facilities at Makola market

Accra, March 8, GNA – The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) on Tuesday announced taking over the toilets and other facilities at the Makola market with immediate effect and all accounts that accrued should be rendered to the Assembly.

A statement issued in Accra and signed by Nii Stanley Adjiri Blankson, AMA Chief Executive said, ” it has come to the notice of the AMA that a faction of the traders at the market are planning to take over the market and its facilities.”

It said the government since 2001, had made concerted efforts to allow peace and calm to prevail in all markets within the Accra metropolis.

“Any attempt therefore, by a group of people to arrogate to themselves prime ownership or custody of the market or any other market shall not be countenanced by the AMA,” it added.

The Assembly warned that it would be compelled to eject anyone, who had an agenda to bring trouble at the market and its precincts. It said it would ensure that the people continued to enjoy the peace that had characterized the metropolis.
