AMA fails to elect PM for the second time

Accra, April 13, GNA – The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) on Wednesday failed to elect a Presiding Member (PM) for the second time as none of the two contestants got the required two thirds votes of 93 to be declared winner.

Out of the 129 membership of the assembly, 128 members cast their votes to give the incumbent Presiding Member, Mr Desmond Addo-Biney, 68 votes and the other contestant Mr Daniel Ashiaku Akushey, a retired banker, 52 votes.

At their previous sitting on April 9, this year, the AMA failed to elect a PM when Mr Addo-Biney, pulled 76 votes as against 52 votes by Mr Akushey.

Mr Addo-Biney said he was not perturbed but expressed hope that he would be elected during the third time of voting. His main challenger, Mr Akushey, said he was sure of victory to lead the assembly to achieve its vision and mission for the metropolis.
