AMA Chief Executive Loses Mother

Accra (GAR), July 8, Dr. Evelyn Amarteifio, founding Secretary- General of the Ghana Assembly of Women, died in Accra on Sunday, July six. She was 81. A family spokesman said burial arrangements would be announced later. Dr. Amarteifio is survived by five children, including Mrs. Afua Nanka-Bruce, a nursing sister in Britain, Mr. Nat Nuno Amarteifio, chief executive of the Accra Metropolitan Assembly and Mr. Nick Amarteifio, a business executive, based in the U.S. The others are Ms Korkor Amarteifio, a director of programmes at the National Theatre and Mr. Laryea Amarteifio, a legal practitioner. In the 1950’s, Mrs. Dr. Amarteifio was one of the early champions of women’s rights and interests throughout the country and worked tirelessly for the elimination of practices which hindered their development.
