AMA Boss is overstepping his boundaries – Ursula

Member of Parliament (MP) for Ablekuma West Ursula Owusu-Ekuful has accused the Mayor of Accra, Alfred Oko Vanderpuije, of overstepping his boundaries.

Scores of shops at Dansoman Last Stop have been pulled down by the Accra Metropolitan Assembly under the supervision of Police officers. The exercise which started Monday has affected over 50 shops and small businesses.

Mrs. Owusu-Ekuful who has shown disgust over the manner in which the exercise was carried out says she was not informed about the demolition.

In an interview with XYZ News, she said there are processes involved with carrying out such demolition exercises.

“If he had, he could have called a meeting with the shop owners and the residents in the area and discuss with them the need to carry out the demolition, giving them reasonable time to remove their things and carry on as usual…”

Ursula Owusu-Ekuful said she was concerned because the affected residents are Ghanaians who contributes to the development of the nation.

According to her, Mr. Vanderpuije is “destroying the people’s livelihood without reference to the fact that they were human beings”.
