Alumini to construct dormitory to train more male nurses

Winneba, (C/R) June 2, GNA – The Students’ Representative Council (S= RC) with the Alumini of the Winneba Nurses Training School (WCHNS) would construct a GH¢500,000 dormitory to train more male nurses. Mr Emmanuel Armah Eduku, the SRC President, told the Ghana News Agency after a durbar held at the school, as past of activities marking the SRC/Alumini Week in Winneba. He said at present only a handful of male nurses were admitted to the school because of lack of accommodation.

Mr Eduku said the two-storey building project would be undertaken in tw= o phases, explaining, the first phase would start in August. Mr Eduku said the project would be funded with contributions from the current and old students but said a committee would soon be formed to decid= e how much each student would contribute. He said, additionally, the SRC in consultation with the authorities of the school, had approached some personalities, companies and philanthropist= s to contribute towards the project.

The SRC President said currently the Effutu Municipal Assembly, which lauded the project, had pledged 100 bags of cement. The Principal of the School, Mrs Emma Tagoe and Mr Mike Hammah, the Member of Parliament for the area, had also pledged 20 bags and 30 bags of cement respectively, towards the project. According to him, a total of 270 bags of cement had been pledged towards the project, adding that, the Ghana Cement Factory (GHACEM) had als= o promised to offer some cement. The Chief Nursing Officer of the Ministry of Health, Mr George Kumi Kyeremeh, at a durbar to mark the occasion, called for the training of more male nurses to the rural areas to address some of the challenges faced by the young female staff who may have genuine concern about their chances of finding suitable life partners and so refuse postings there.
