Accra, July 8, GNA – Agnes Frimpomaa, unemployed, who allegedly escaped from the grips of the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) at the Tesano Police Station in Accra, on Friday appeared before an Accra Circuit Court for escaping from lawful custody.
The plea of Frimpomaa, 18, was reserved. She was remanded into Police custody to reappear on July 13. The court ordered the Police to send Frimpomaa for a psychiatric examination following her escape from police custody. While the Police contended that she was 18 years when she was brought to court, she told the police that she was 17. It further ordered the Police to ascertain her age at the Hospital. The prosecutor, Inspector I.A.A. Ahor, told the court, presided over by Mrs Georgina Mensah-Datsa, that on July 7, Frimpomaa was sent to a Circuit Court in connection with a child-stealing case and the court remanded her into Police custody.
While in the custody of DOVVSU at Tesano, Frimpomaa managed to remove one of the handcuffs, tore the gauze in the window and escaped. Inspector Ahor said Frimpomaa was, however, brought back to the police by one Kofi Amponsah and others who suspected she had escaped from custody.
