All set for ADR week celebration

Mr Alex Nartey, National Coordinator for Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR), on Monday called on litigants with cases in the law courts to make preparation for settlement at this year’s ADR week celebration.

They should request for their cases from the registrars of the district courts for mediation because the ADR system would resolve cases in all the 47 courts throughout the week nationwide.

A statement signed by Mr Nartey to the Ghana News Agency said, this year’s celebration, scheduled for April 23rd to 27th is on the general theme: “Court-Connected ADR: The Citizens’ participation in the administration of Justice.”

ADR was adopted by the Judicial Service of Ghana as part of its Judicial Reform Programmes to ensure that access to justice was made easier, cheaper, non adversarial, expeditious and flexible to all, particularly the poor and vulnerable.

The statement said, the celebration would give parties the opportunity to settle their cases through mediation, run programmes and activities to create awareness on the availability of ADR as an option to settle cases faster and cheaper.**
