All GETFUND projects must be user friendly – Banahene

Tamale, Dec. 7, GNA – Mr. Fosuaba Mensah Banahene, the Administrator of the GETfund, has directed that henceforth all projects under the Fund must be user friendly for persons with disabilities. He urged contractors to factor in the cost of works that would achieve this objective when bidding for contracts. Mr. Banahene gave the directive in Tamale on Wednesday during an inspection tour of the “CAN 2008” hostel project and some other projects.

These projects are located at the University for Development Studies (UDS) Medical School, the Nyankpala Agricultural Campus of the UDS, the Tamale Polytechnic and the Tamale Girls’ Secondary School. Mr Banahene commended the contractors working on the projects and said the Tamale Polytechnic needed more infrastructures. He said the fund would provide the school with a bus and a bungalow for the Principal.

Alhaji Mustapha Ali Idris, the Northern Regional Minister, appealed to contractors, especially those working on the “CAN 2008” hostel project, to complete the work within the stipulated time. He expressed gratitude to the Getfund Board for the projects and said educational institutions in the region needed more support to be able to cope up with the increasing enrolment at the basic level following the introduction of the capitation grant. Alhaji Idris, who is also the Chairman of the Getfund Board, called on the contractor working on the Tamale Girls’ Secondary School to speed up work to enable the authorities to relocate the students from the centre of the metropolis to the new site.

The Principal of the Tamale Polytechnic Alhaji (Dr) Yakubu Seidu Peligah expressed appreciation for the projects and said the school needed more classrooms because it was still running the Technical programmes alongside the polytechnic programmes. 07 Dec 06
