Aliu’s death has ignited our sense of nationhood – Prez Mahama

President John Dramani Mahama has paid a glowing tribute to the late former Vice President, Alhaji Aliu Mahama, describing him as a disciplined business man who was also successful in public service.

President Mahama paid his tribute during the funeral service of the late Alhaji Aliu Mahama at the Black Star square on Sunday.

President Mahama said “former Vice President Aliu Mahama’s passing has thrown our nation yet again into a state of mourning and has ignited our collective sense of nationhood to rally together in mutual support and solidarity.”

He said the suspension of political campaigns to honour Aliu Mahama who distinguished himself in dedicated service to Ghana buttresses the fact that Ghana is a matured and stable democracy.

“Aliu Mahama lived a distinguished life epitomizing the finest combination of excellence in public service and success in private practice and dedication to the nation in the second highest office of the land as vice president,” President Mahama said.

He said Aliu Mahama served as a role model for many young men and women in the north, adding that the former Vice President inspired many young people during his days in political office.

He praised the late former vice president as a man who pursued discipline to the point of undertaking a national campaign while serving as Vice President to instill discipline in every Ghanaian.
