Akwidaa destools chief, appoints regent

Agona Nkwanta (W/R), July 12, GNA- Nana Kumgyahene spokesman for the elders and sub chiefs of Akwidaa in the Ahanta West district of the Western Region have de-stooled their chief in conformity with the customs and traditions of the area and performed the necessary rituals. They said the chief, Nana Akulo-Numa the fourteenth, had abandoned the town for the past sixteen months without any reason. Nana Kumgyahene, made this disclosure at a press conference at Agona Nkwanta on Wednesday.

Nana Bordoh Kofi, Gyasehene, Nana Gyendi Amoako V, Krontihene, Nana Seikuma, Chief of Akyinim and Paa Kofi, Mbrantehene accompanied him. He alleged that the chief had sold several lands close to the beach to foreigners and all efforts by elders to get the chief to render proper accounts hade proved futile.

He said the case was therefore reported to the Ahanta Traditional Council who wrote to Nana Akulo-Numa on May 5 and 15th this year, but he failed to respond.

Nana Kumgyahene said the elders had earlier filed destoolment charges against Akulo-Numa in January 2006 at the Ahanta traditional council.

He said to ensure peace, a new regent, Nana Kweku Nketsia, who does not hail from the two royal gates of Asamangama had been chosen to steer the affairs of the town until a new chief is selected, confined and enstooled.
