Akufo-Addo Congratulates Farmers

On behalf of the leadership and entire membership of the New Patriotic Party, I wish to congratulate our farmers and fishermen on this day as we acknowledge their hard work and unflinching commitment over the years.

We are indeed proud of your good works and congratulate every one of you on this day as you continue to hold the fortunes of our nation in your hands.

As I continue to reiterate, the transformation and modernisation of our agriculture to enhance productivity and guarantee food security and self-sufficiency are the vital issues of our time. With the necessary support and incentives, I am confident that the Ghanaian farmer will be up to the task.

This year has certainly not been a good one in terms of growth of the Agricultural sector with government projecting growth at 2.8% as against a target of 5.3%. Our fisheries sector fared poorly as well, with growth projected at 1.7%. However, in the face of this uninspiring statistics, I’m still confident in the ability of the Ghanaian farmer to turn things around.

I congratulate all award winners in this year’s national Best Farmers Day Awards and I hope that your exploits and achievements in the coming years would be an inspiration for others to the benefit of the Ghanaian people.
