Akim Oda women educated on human rights

Akim Oda (E/R), Dec 7, GNA – Young and Lonely Foundation, Ghana (YLF), a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) based at Agona Swedru, has organized an outreach programme to educate women at Akim Oda on human rights issues. Mr Gilbert Kofi Germain, Executive Director of YLF, noted that women and children were still being discriminated against, thereby putting an impediment in the way of economic, political, social and cultural development.

Mr Germain, therefore, called on Ghanaians to ensure that the practice was completely eradicated from the society by reporting culprits to the law enforcement agencies.

The programme was aimed at sensitizing women and children on their rights and privileges in the constitution. Participants were educated on topics such as human rights of women and children, violence against women and children, and trafficking”. The Executive Director condemned violence against women and trafficking of people, describing the act as “inhuman and barbaric”. He urged men to cooperate with and support their women to realize their goals, saying that the rights of women in the society were often abused. 0
