Akim Abompe draws five-year plan on education

Akim Abompe (E/R), Feb. 13, GNA – The chiefs and people of Akim Abompe in the Fanteakwa had released a two-hectare plot for the construction of a kindergaten and Junior Secondary School (JSS) for the local Salvation Army Education Unit.

The construction of a three-unit block each had become necessary to enrol pre-basic pupils and relieve the JSS pupils from treking about four kilometers daily to and from the Bomdwen JSS.

The decision for the offer of the land for the schools was announced at a meeting of the people by the chief, Barimah Darkwa Bonney, II, which was also attended by the Fanteakwa District Chief Executive, Mr Ofoe Ceasar, to discuss the falling standards of education in the area.

The meeting was also attended by the Eastern Regional Director of Education, Mrs Ewurabena Ahwoi and the District Director of Education, Fanteakwa, Miss Mary Animwaa.

The headteacher of the Abompe Salvation Army Primary School, Mr Clement Asare Nkafo, told the meeting that a large number of pupils from his school attend the Bomdwen JSS A & B following the collapse of the school block by a rainstorm in 1978

The meeting appealed to the Fanteakwa District Assembly, to as, a matter of urgency, construct the blocks for the Unit to ease the heavy burden on the pupils and the pressure on the Bomdwen schools. Miss Animwaa promised to assist in the provision of teachers and teaching and learning materials for the schools.
