Ahanta West, Essikado-Ketan elect candidates for CPP

Agona-Nkwanta (W/R) July 20,-GNA-The Ahanta West and Essikado-Ketan constituencies of the Convention Peoples’ Party (CPP) on Saturday elected their parliamentary candidates at separate delegates meetings at Agona-Nkwanta and Essikado. Mr. David Oscar Yawson, a 30-year-old lecturer at the Cape-Coast University was elected by popular acclamation to contest the Ahanta West seat, while Mr. John Eghan, an employee of the Ghana Railway Company polled 31 votes to beat two other aspirants in a keenly contested election to vie for the Essikado-Ketan constituency. The two other contestants, Mr. John Essandoh and Mr. Kojo Addison had 25 and 11 votes respectively. At Essikado, seven out of the 74 delegates expected to cast their votes were absent.

Both elections, which were smooth and orderly were conducted by officials from the Electoral Commission. After the elections, Mr. Yawson and Mr. Eghan thanked the delegates and promised to work hard to win their respective constituencies for the CPP and called for loyalty, commitment and hard work from supporters and sympathisers. Mr. Yawson said the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) should not be given the mandate to rule the country again because both squandered the opportunity offered them by the electorate.

He urged the electorate and particularly the youth to support the CPP because it has the experience and the strategy to make Ghana the envy of many nations.

Mr. Daniel Quaye, Electoral Officer for Ahanta West urged qualified voters who have not registered to do so when the voters register opens between July 31 and August 10 this year to enable them to exercise their civic responsibilities during the elections. He told the Ghana News Agency that adequate materials for the registration exercise had been delivered to the regional office of the EC and allocations to the urban and district offices would be delivered during the week.
