The re-election campaign of New Patriotic Party (NPP) General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong has received strong backing in the Ahafo Region, where regional leaders and delegates said they were committed to retaining him in the role.
Delegates said Mr Kodua Frimpong’s accessibility, humility and continued attention to the needs of Ahafo during his first term were among the main reasons they believed he should remain General Secretary. They described his leadership as “an investment worth protecting”.
The endorsement came during Mr Kodua Frimpong’s campaign tour of the region on 18 August 2026. He and his team were received on behalf of Ahafo Regional Chairman Robert Sarfo Mensah by Yaw Owusu Brempong, the former Chief Executive Officer of Venture Capital and former NPP Parliamentary Candidate for Asutifi South.
The visit was attended by a significant number of regional party officials. They included First Regional Vice Chairman Prof. Emmanuel Marfo, Second Regional Vice Chairman Collins O. Mensah, former First Regional Vice Chairman Justice Appiah Antwi, Regional Organiser Bawa Issifu and Regional Communications Officer Asiedu Alfred.
Regional Nasara Organiser Mohammed Mutala, Regional Women’s Organiser Emelia Konadu, former Regional Women’s Organiser Adwoa Fosu and Regional Treasurer Eugene Boakye were also present.
Former parliamentary candidates Frank Aduse Poku and Kobi Amoah Mensah joined the tour, alongside other senior party figures. Their participation underlined the level of support accompanying Mr Kodua Frimpong’s meetings with delegates across Ahafo.
‘One of us’
Ahafo Regional Chairman Robert Sarfo Mensah said the NPP General Secretary should not be regarded as an outsider visiting the region, but as a member of the local political community.
“JFK is not a visitor to Ahafo; he is one of us. Whenever Ahafo calls, he makes himself available. We have seen his leadership and commitment to this region. He is an investment, and we shall protect that investment.”
Mr Sarfo Mensah said Mr Kodua Frimpong’s relationship with Ahafo extended beyond election periods. He pointed to the General Secretary’s availability and commitment throughout his first term as evidence of a relationship built on trust.
The comments were strongly supported by delegates, who renewed their determination to keep Mr Kodua Frimpong as General Secretary. They said they wanted him to continue and consolidate the reforms and structures introduced under his leadership.
For Mr Kodua Frimpong, the support represented both confidence in his record and an obligation to continue working for the party with humility, accessibility and purpose.
Responding to the endorsement, he thanked the regional leadership and delegates for their backing. He pledged to remain focused on strengthening the NPP’s structures, promoting unity and working with every region and constituency.
He also said his aim was to help rebuild a formidable NPP ahead of Ghana’s 2028 general elections.
The Ahafo campaign visit therefore ended with a clear message from the region’s delegates: they believe Mr Kodua Frimpong’s leadership has delivered progress and should be protected, with the General Secretary continuing to serve a party that has called on him.
