Ahafo-Ano South Assembly fails third time to elect PM

Mankranso (Ash), Nov. 24, GNA 96 The Ahafo-Ano South District Assembly at Mankranso has for the third time failed to elect a Presiding Member (PM) when after yet another two-round of voting on Tuesday, none of the two candidates was able to obtain the two-thirds majority votes as required.

Mr Nicholas Owusu-Afriyie, former PM, contested with Mr Matthew Borgor and polled 34 votes whiles the latter had 25 votes. The situation called for another round of voting in which Mr Owusu-Afriyie had 32 votes while Mr Borgor obtained 22 votes from the 59-member Assembly. All members voted.

Meanwhile, Mr Owusu-Afriyie has been permitted to preside over the Assembly’s meetings until a substantive PM is elected. The elections were supervised by Mr Ernest Opoku, the District Electoral Officer. 24 Nov. 06
