Agona Needy Care assists community at Swedru

Agona Swedru, June 18, GNA – The Agona Needy Care, a Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) based at Swedru has presented second hand clothing and other items worth 15 million cedis to the needy at Eguabiriso, a suburb of Agona Swedru to improve their living standard.

The organisation has also constructed a 50-million cedi workshop at Agona Asafo for the Vocational Training Centre to assist school dropouts in the district to acquire skills in carpentry, masonry and other trades to enable them to become self-reliant.

Mr Sullmana B Kukudje, Field Coordinator of the Organisation told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Swedru that the organisation has also embarked on programme to sensitise the people especially the youth on the dangers of HIV/AIDS and other sexual transmitted Diseases (STDs). He said the measures had been taken to care for the People Living with AIDS (PLWA), in the Agona District to supplement the efforts of the government.

Mr Kukudje stated that sewing machines and carpentry tools would be presented to Centre for training of the boys and girls who could not continue their education due to financial constraints. He announced that the NGO would assist needy but brilliant students to further their education, adding that, seminars would be organised to educate parents and guardians on the need to send their children especially the girl-child to school.

Mr Foussein Harouna, Director of the NGO, said a consignment of second hand goods, computers and stationery and textbooks and exercise books would arrive in the country soon for distribution to needy school children and institutions in the District. Mr Harouna, a Ghanaian born Dutch citizen said the NGO had made education its main priority, adding that, the Agona District Directorate of the Ghana Education Service (GES) and some second cycle institutions had earmarked for the computers and accessories to enable the students to learn Information Technology IT. He stressed that the NGO would take care of the health needs of aged.
