Agona East elects Sawyer as NDC parliamentary candidate for 2012 elections

Agona Swedru (C/R), Nov. 28, GNA – The Minister for Trade and Industries, Ms Hannah Tetteh, has said the National Democratic Congress (NDC) had a choice to either move forward or go backwards. She said the choice depened on how the members would conduct themselves in the run-up to the 2012 elections and the candidates they would elect to represent the party in the constituencies. The Minister said this in a pre-election speech at the party’s parliamentary primaries for Agona East constituency at the National Vocational Training Institute at Agona Swedru on Saturday. Mrs Queenstar Pokuaa Sawyer, a 43-year-old Real Estate Developer, polled 146 votes to beat Mr Kwesi Ahwoi, Minister of Food and Agriculture who polled 143 votes. Mr Eric Turkson polled 82 whilst Mr George Yankah got one vote.

Ms Tetteh said since none of the members and supporters of the party would like to see the party go into opposition, they would make the right choice by electing marketable candidates and also ensure unity by refraining from activities and utterances which could divide their front.

Mr Abeiku Aggrey, the Deputy Central Regional Organiser of the party, expressed concern about inability of members and supporters of the party to defend it when its detractors were level allegations against it.

“Let us show love for our party by defending it to make the electorate to know the truth,” he said. In her acceptance speech, Mrs Sawyer, expressed gratitude to the delegates for giving her the nod and appealed to them to support her to win the seat in 2012.

Mr Ahwoi, speaking on behalf of the defeated candidates, pledged to support Mrs Sawyer to win the seat for NDC in 2012.
