Fulani herdsmen on Thursday February 4 embarked on sporadic shooting on a farm in Agogo, Ashanti Region, scaring farmers, who run helter-skelter for dear life.
The latest incident comes a day after the Ashanti Regional Security Council rolled out measures to deal with the Fulani menace in the area.
The shooting also happened while the Inspector General of Police (IGP) was in a meeting with the Regional Security Council, chiefs, and opinion leaders on how to deal with the feud between the residents of Agogo and the nomads.
Reporting from Agogo, Class News’ Ashanti regional correspondent, Hafiz Tijani, said a resident barged into the area where the IGP was meeting with the security officers, to report of sporadic gunfire by the Fulanis in the bush.
The police sent a rapid deployment force of officers in two pick-up vehicles to the bush where they saw farmers running for their lives.
The Fulanis took to their heels when they saw the police. The men in uniform refused to go after them, reports Hafiz Tijani. According to them, the Fulanis are “animals of the bush,” so, they left them to attend to some farmers, who needed company to safety.
There were no casualties, but large portions of farmlands have been destroyed by herds of the nomads.
