Agent in custody for diverting 400 bags of cement

Tema, April 6, GNA – Francis Azargo, a cement agent in Tema was on Monday remanded in custody by a Tema circuit court “B” for diverting 400 bags of cement valued at 17.5 million cedis, belonging to a distributor at Mampong-Akwapim.

He pleaded not guilty to stealing and the case was adjourned to April 21.

Prosecuting, Chief Inspector Edith Nutakor told the court that the accused normally collects chits on behalf of the complainant and supplies him with the cement.

She said in March this year, the accused collected a chit for 400 bags of cement but after collecting the allocation, he did not send it to the consignee but rather diverted it.

After fruitless efforts to trace the accused, Mr Opare reported the matter to the police whose investigations led to his arrest. 06 Apr. 04
