Agbogbomefia asked Ghanaians to regard their identity as paramount

Ho, Jan. 1, GNA – The Agbogbomefia of Asogli Traditional Area, Togbe Afede XIV on Wednesday urged Ghanaians to consider their identity as paramount as country entered another election year. In a New Year message released to the Press in Ho, Togbe Afede said it was essential for the people to appreciate diversity of opinions as significant in the country’s socio-political development. He called on all politicians in particular to accept variety of ideas and opinions since that formed the foundation for progress of every society.

Togbe Afede observed that “our opponents help to keep us on the right path and add colour and excitement to the electoral process”. He said: “They make victory sweet so to desire that all should think alike is to wish away an essential fact of life”. Togbe Afede requested politicians to spare the country the stresses it went through during the 2000 general election as another electioneering campaign time drew closer.

He cautioned against the promotion of ethnicity in national politics since that could destroy the peace, love, unity and stability of the country.

Togbe Afede advised politicians to appreciate the view of their opponents saying those who supported them could pose a threat to their political career than their critics.
