Afriyie-Ankrah: I have disappointed Mahama

Former Sports Minister Elvis Afriyie-Ankrah says he let down the President and Ghanaians after Ghana’s shambolic performance at this year’s World Cup in Brazil.

Expectations were high for the Black Stars to do well this year in Brazil after reaching the quarter-finals in South Africa four years ago.

“I have let down Ghanaians and the President, but there were circumstances beyond our control in camp,” Afriyie-Ankrah said.

Ghana’s campaign at the Brazil 2014 World Cup was marred with appearance fees row with some of the senior players at the forefront.

Sulley Muntari and Kevin Prince-Boateng were suspended for various acts of misconduct.

The ex-Sports Minister, who has been re-assigned to the presidency upon his return, said he did his best to solve the situation in camp, but the playing body simply did not cooperate.
