Hohoe, Oct. 13, GNA – Alhaji Tahiru Mohammed, Deputy Hohoe District Chief Imam of the Tijaniyya Muslim sect, on Saturday called on African leaders to give space for peace, equity and justice to prevail over oppression and exploitation. He said race, colour, religion and wealth should not be determinants for equal rights and justice. Alhaji Mohammed was addressing Muslims at the Hohoe Adabraka Park to mark Eid-Ul-Fitr.
He said all races were equal before Allah and urged African leaders to fashion out policies and programmes under the African Union to bring economic empowerment to the underprivileged on the continent. Alhaji Mohammed called on Muslim communities and Christians to harness the human, natural and material resources towards nation building.
He urged Muslims to eschew immoral lifestyles and other social vices that bring Islam into disrepute. At Ho Alhaji Hamza Omar, Volta Regional Chief Imam, cautioned Muslims against internal strife and urged them to remain committed to peace and unity and not ” who is the Imam”. Alhaji Omar spoke about the importance of education and advised Muslims to take advantage of government’s interventions in the educational sector.
Captain George Nfordjo, Member of Parliament for Ho Central, congratulated Muslims in the country for a successful fast and prayers for the nation. He later donated 10 plastic chairs to the Muslim community. 13 Oct 07
