Africa World Airlines launches Accra–Ouagadougou route

Africa World Airlines (AWA) has officially launched a new flight route connecting Accra, Ghana, to Ouagadougou, the capital of Burkina Faso.

The launch ceremony took place on Friday, June 20, at the Palms by Eagles at Airport City in Accra.

Addressing guests at the event, Andrew Asante Amankwah, AWA’s Head of Safety, assured travellers of the airline’s continued commitment to safety on all its routes, including the newly introduced one.

“I am pleased to assure our passengers and potential passengers that our new route is safe for everyone, just like all our routes,” he stated.

Burkina Faso’s Ambassador to Ghana, David Kabre, welcomed the development and highlighted the positive impact the route would have on bilateral relations and commerce between the two nations.

“This new route comes at a perfect time for Ghana-Burkina Faso relations. It will help accelerate business growth between both countries,” he said. He also acknowledged former President John Mahama for playing a key role in facilitating the initiative.

AWA Vice President Andy Zhang shared his enthusiasm about the airline’s progress and expressed optimism about the economic opportunities the new route will create.

“Since our launch, we’ve served over five million passengers and earned the trust of the public. This milestone couldn’t have been achieved without the support of Ghana,” he said. “We hope this new route will unlock more business opportunities between Ghana and Burkina Faso.”

The Accra–Ouagadougou route will operate three times a week—on Tuesday mornings, Thursdays, and Sundays. Flights will depart Accra at 10:10 a.m. and return from Ouagadougou at 12:30 p.m.
