Afoko should defect to NDC – Amaliba

Suspended National Chairman of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) Paul Afoko should join the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Abraham Amaliba, a member of the NDC’s legal team, has said.

Mr Afoko had his lawsuit challenging his suspension as National Chair of the NPP thrown out by an Accra Human Rights Court on Monday August 15.

He was suspended indefinitely by the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the party on October 23, 2015 after the party’s Disciplinary Committee had recommended his suspension. The committee’s recommendation followed a petition by two members of the party who claimed that Mr Afoko had conducted himself in ways that had brought his position and the administration of the party into disrepute.

Not satisfied with the party’s decision, he dragged the NPP to court in December last year, claiming that his suspension was not in tandem with the party’s constitution.

But his suit was thrown out of court.

Speaking in relation to the dismissal of the suit against the NPP on Multi TV’s Newsfile on Saturday August 20, Mr Amaliba said: “[He should] defect to the NDC,” adding that Afoko “is not liked in the NPP. A lot of things were said about him before he became the national chairman of the NPP.”
