Aflao slippery robber nabbed

Kwaku Azasu,22, described by the police as a slippery hardened criminal, was finally nabbed on Wednesday, after he robbed a motor rider of his bike at gun point.

Mr. Augustine Luguyare, Aflao District Police Commander told the GNA that at about 10:30 hours on Wednesday, Azasu engaged a Commercial motor rider from main town Aflao to Zuime, a suburb of Aflao.

He said at a spot, Azasu pulled out an automatic foreign pistol of six rounds on the rider, succeeded in grabbing the bike and sped off.

Mr. Luguyare said the victim raised an alarm, attracting residents there, who blocked the road and intercepted the bike and subjected Azasu to severe beatings.

He said a police patrol team arrived just then to rescue Azasu, and sent him (Azasu) drenched in blood to the Ketu South Municipal Hospital at Aflao for treatment after which he was placed in police custody for further investigations.

Mr. Luguyare said the Police earlier on Monday traced Azasu and some accomplices to a spot at Aflao over another robbery case at Sepenukope, but they all bolted, leaving a revolver behind.

He said the same suspect was cited in a robbery case near a hotel in Aflao, in September this year, during which one suspect was shot dead by the security and the three others, arrested.

Mr. Luguyare said a police team from Akasti had also on Monday approached his outfit to help arrest Azasu over another criminal case and that the same Azasu was on the police wanted list across the border in Lome,Togo.

Mr. Luguyare appealed to residents to assist the police with information to help arrest criminals responsible for the soaring crime, including bag and motorbike snatching in the area particularly along the frontier.
