Bewadze (C/R), June 9, GNA – The Winneba District Office of the Adventist Development and Relief Agency (ADRA), Ghana, has embarked on a planting exercise to protect the Winneba-Junction Gomoa-Mprumem stretch of the rehabilitated Kasoa-Gomoa Mprumem portion of the Mallam-Yamoransa trunk road. So far, over 7,000 seedlings of cassia had been planted within the past two weeks at Winneba-Junction, Gomoa-Bewadze, Gomoa-Onyadze, Gomoa-Otsew-Jukwa and Gomoa Mprumem.
Mr. Isaac Kankam-Boadu, District Officer of ADRA, told the Ghana News Agency after he and Mr. Richard Boateng, a Field Project Officer of the organisation had led the people in the communities to plant the seedlings along the road on Monday. He said the programme funded by USAID would cost about nine million cedis.
Mr. Kankam-Boadu said the exercise was to provide shelter, protect the road from erosion, as well as beautify the communities. It formed part of ADRA’s environmental protection programme, adding that, the communities would be given three rations of Soya-fortified bulgur food supply, which started in 2002 to 2007 as part of the organisation’s five-year food security programme.
Mr. Boateng appealed to the communities to help in prolonging the life span of the road.
