Adjena SHS appeals for support

Mr Daniel Mensah, Headmaster of the Adjena Senior High and Technical School in the Asuogyaman District, has appealed to the government to provide the needed infrastructure to enhance teaching and learning in the school.

He expressed worry about the lack of infrastructure such as dormitories, teachers’ bungalows, dining hall, assembly hall and science laboratory, among others in the school.

Mr Mensah, in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA), said in the absence of a boys’ dormitory, an old Catholic primary school was allocated to the school for use as a boy’s dormitory.

He said the building is located about two kilometers away from the school and the boys had to trek there each day.

Mr Mensah noted with concern that the dormitory was also close to the community cemetery which put fear in the students.

He said as a result of absence of staff bungalows, there were no teachers on the compound to supervise the students, a situation that tends to undermine discipline.

The school’s kitchen, which is under a tree, is also located very close to their toilet facility.

Mr Mensah said apart from lack of infrastructure, the school did not have any computer and science laboratory to allow students to do practical work.

“Our workshops for metal works, building construction, woodwork and the home science are nothing to write home about,” he said. He, therefore, appealed to the district assembly to come to their aid.

Mr Mensah said due to the deplorable state of the school, parents, whose wards were posted there, refused to allow them to attend the school.

The school, which was established in 1979, has a student population of 317.
