Adaklu Mountain to become tourist destination

Adaklu-Goefe (V/R), Aug. 18, GNA- Mrs Juliana Azumah-Mensah, Minister of Tourism, on Monday led a group of public servants including sightseers on a symbolic scaling of the Adaklu Mountain, to draw public attention to its huge tourist attraction.

The Minister was accompanied on the expedition by, Colonel Cyril Necku, (Rtd) Deputy Volta Regional Minister, Mr Michael Kobla Adzaho, Adaklu-Anyigbe District Chief Executive, officials of Ghana Tourist Board (GTB) and journalists.

The rocky apex of the mountain, located about 15 kilometres from Ho, the regional capital, is home to different species of birds, animals and the origin of a number of streams.

Mrs Azumah-Mensah said the summit of the mountain was good for hiking, parachuting and leisure.

She said it was important that communities living around the mountain kept the surroundings clean and protect the natural beauty of the environment to boost tourism. Mrs Azumah-Mensah spoke against felling of trees and bush burning for game and farming.

She said her Ministry was prepared to promote the tourism potentials of the area and tasked the surrounding communities to invest in structures and business activities that could make the area a tourist destination. “You can form some cultural groups and build reception centres to begin with,” she said. Mrs Azumah-Mensah asked officials of the Regional Office of the GTB to document facts about the mountain for future reference. Mr Adzaho said the district was exposing its tourism potentials to enhance its socio-economic development and called on communities with tourist resources to co-operate with the assembly to make the venture a success.
