Youth activist Dennis Apusika has completed a 785-kilometre walk from Bolgatanga to Accra to demand the construction of a modern sports stadium in the Upper East Region.
The 27-day trek, which began on July 22 and ended at the Black Star Square on August 17, was designed to draw national attention to the lack of sporting infrastructure in the region.
Speaking at the end of his journey, Mr Apusika said the campaign was not only a personal test of endurance but also a call to government and stakeholders to act on the long-standing appeal for a befitting stadium.
“This is more than just a walk. It is a message that the youth in the Upper East deserve equal opportunities to develop their talents through sports,” he said.
Mr Apusika believes the facility would transform the sporting landscape of the region, nurturing young athletes while also creating avenues for tourism and economic growth.
“The proposed stadium would play a key role in developing young sporting talents and serve as a hub to boost tourism and economic activity in the area,” he explained.
The Upper East Region has for years been without a major sports facility, leaving young athletes with limited options to showcase and hone their skills. Mr Apusika’s bold campaign reflects growing frustration among residents who feel sidelined in the allocation of national infrastructure.
By walking hundreds of kilometres to the nation’s capital, he hopes his efforts will spark action from policymakers and inspire other young people to demand equitable development.
