The Rotary Club of Accra Airport, a non-governmental organisation, has organised a de-worming exercise for members of the James Town Community to reduce the rate of worm infestation.
Mr Osei Kwame Agyeman, President of the Club, said although the community has a number of problems to do with sanitation, unemployment, accommodation, the paramount concern is health hence the exercise.
He said the objective of the club is to administer de-worming tablets to about 7,000 members of the community as well as educate them on hygiene.
He said the Club has undertaken similar exercise at other places including Madina, Chorkor and Lartehbiokorshie.
He said: “Health statistics and demography indicates that deprived communities suffer from poor health conditions making them prone to worms. That is why we selected such communities to undertake the projects”.
Mr Agyeman said the exercise was undertaken by the club in collaboration with Ghana Health Service which provided personnel.
Mr Nathan Adu, Treasurer of the Club, said GH?5,000.00 was used to organise the event.
The Rotary Club is an international organisation with millions of members that aims at providing service to the society in fields of illiteracy, health, sanitation, and safe water.
The club is divided into districts with that of Ghana belonging to the West African District made up of Benin, Togo and Niger.
