The Mayor of Accra, Michael Kpakpo Allotey, has given mechanics operating at Dadeban Loop, near Winners Chapel in the North Industrial Area, until Monday, November 2, 2026, to remove vehicles parked along the road ahead of construction.
The final directive was issued on October 26, 2026, during the mayor’s working visit to the area. He met six leaders of the mechanic workshop to discuss the continued use of sections of the road identified for construction under the government’s infrastructure development programme.
Mayor Allotey said the project was part of the Reset Ghana Agenda being pursued by President John Dramani Mahama to improve roads, increase accessibility and support economic activity across the country.
He warned that vehicles left on the affected stretch could interfere with the work and delay the project. The operators were therefore instructed to clear the road before contractors began construction.
The mayor said the affected mechanics had already been consulted and provided with financial assistance to help relocate their vehicles. He added that the support was intended to allow the move to take place with as little disruption as possible to their businesses.
He described the deadline as final and urged the workshop operators not to delay further. All vehicles must be removed by the stated date so the road works can begin without obstruction.
Mechanics working along First Close and Ninth Street, near Eden Garden Hotel, were also told to leave the streets. Mayor Allotey warned that the Accra Metropolitan Assembly would tow away vehicles belonging to operators who failed to comply.
The mayor called for cooperation between the Assembly and businesses in the area during the delivery of development projects. He said better roads would benefit businesses, motorists, pedestrians and residents in the industrial enclave.
Although the Assembly recognised the economic contribution of mechanics and other artisans, he said their work should not block public roads or hinder efforts to improve infrastructure and maintain the free movement of vehicles.
During the meeting, the workshop operators confirmed that they had received financial support to assist with moving their vehicles. They also said arrangements were in place for them to leave the affected area before construction begins.
The Dadeban Loop road project is expected to improve the movement of vehicles, provide better access to businesses and industrial facilities, and address existing road infrastructure problems in the North Industrial Area.
