Accra Mayor secures landslide endorsement

Accra Mayor Alfred Vanderpuije has secured his second term in office after he had a landslide endorsement by Assembly members of the Accra Metropolis.

He had 107 out of 112 votes cast by the Assembly members, who are required by the Local government laws to either endorse or disapprove any nominee for mayor, Municipal or District Chief Executive.

Prior to his nomination by the president for a second term and his endorsement on Sunday, a faction within the Assembly had raised reservations with the Mayor’s leadership.

The aggrieved faction joined forces with some disgruntled traditional leaders in the indigenous Ga Community to stifle the Mayor’s endorsement.

The Mayor said his victory is good for the national capital and pledged to work to realize his dream of making Accra the millennium city.
