Accountant jailed 15 years over theft

An accountant of the Produce Buying Company (PBC) has been sentenced to 15 years imprisonment by the Bibiani Court over the theft of an amount of GH¢520,000.00 belonging to his employers.

Reynolds Allotey Addo was also ordered to refund the money after serving his jail term.

He was charged with stealing and pleaded not guilty.

Police Superintendent Victor Abrokwa told the court presided over by Mr Baptist Kwadwo Filson, that the convict was the accountant of the PBC at the Sefwi-Juaboso Area “B” Cocoa District.

He had been given the cash to buy cocoa from farmers during the 2012-2013 main crop season, but stole the money.

The matter was, therefore, reported to the police, and he was arrested.

The prosecution said upon interrogation, Addo confessed investing the money in his micro-finance business.
