Agona Nsaba, (C/R) April 2, GNA – The Acting President of the Nsaba Traditional Area, Nana Kofi Agyekum II, has appealed to chiefs in Agona East and West to accept any nominee who would get the nod for the position of Municipal and District Chief Executive to accelerate the socio-economic advancement of the people.
He said, Agona East, as a newly created district, for instance, needed the necessary infrastructure to attract potential investors, both locally and foreign, to create jobs and wealth for the people. Nana Agyekum was speaking at his confirmation as the Acting President of the Agona Nsaba Traditional Area, at Nsaba, in the Central Region.
Nana Agyekum, the Adontenhene of the Nsaba Traditional Area, is acting as President following the death of Nana Yaw Kobiri, some months ago. He noted that, as a new district, Agona East needed absolute peace and tranquillity to develop in order to reduce poverty. The Acting President said any attempt by the chiefs and some opinion leaders in the Agona East and West to kick against any of the aspiring MDCES who would get the nod would create bad blood between them and the Government and this could delay the implementation of policies and programmes of the district. He urged them to support President J.E.A Mills, adding that although chiefs were banned from doing active politics they had the constitutional right to express their opinions on issues of national concern.
Nana Agyekum thanked the chiefs for the confidence reposed in him and pledged to seek their consent on issues bothering on the development of Nsaba, District Capital. He called on Nsaba citizens resident in Accra and other cities as well as those abroad to assist to build the town to become a better place to live.
The Acting Omanhene said the Traditional Council would team up with the District Assembly to promote social, economic, political and cultural development of Nsaba. Nana Agyekum assured the District Assembly that chiefs were ever prepared to release lands for development projects. Nana Kofi Yeboah II, Kyidomhene of Nsaba Traditional Area and Chief of Lower Bobikuma, who presided over the meeting, urged chiefs to support the Acting President of the House to ensure peace and progress in the area.
He asked them to desist from “pull him down attitudes” which undermined the progress in all areas.
