Aburi Atwiasin clashes: Relative calm restored – Police

The Eastern regional Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Yaw Nketia-Yeboah, has stated that relative peace has been restored in Aburi Atwiasin in the Eastern region following chieftaincy clashes there.

“The peace is not absolute,” he said on Morning Starr, adding that “the men are on the ground seeing it to it that the little [peace] that has been restored will be improved upon.”

Therefore in order to ensure “absolute” peace is restored, ASP Nketia-Yeboah warned all warring parties against engaging in retaliatory attacks. The Public Order Act, he said, will be enforced to ensure that “peace-loving citizenry” go about their duties without any hindrances.

ASP Nketia-Yeboah’s comments come in the wake of threats of retaliatory attacks by some Youth of Aburi Atwiasin after chieftaincy clashes in the area left one brutally injured.

The clashes occurred when the Queen Mother of the area, Nana Afua Sarfowah attempted to enstool a new chief at the blind side of the Kingmakers.

The move triggered confusion leading to gunshots allegedly fired by guards of the Queen mother.

Kwame Asiedu, a resident who got injured while attempting to stop the scuffle narrated the incidence to Starr news.

He has threatened to retaliate should the Police fail to bring the guards to book.

The threat of retaliation, according to ASP Nketia-Yeboah, will not be necessary urging the feuding factions to exercise restraint and seek redress at the Regional House of Chiefs.
