ABL donates equipment worth US$100,000 to Korle-Bu

In support of Government’s efforts to improve healthcare delivery in the country, Accra Brewery Limited (ABL), a subsidiary of SABMillerPlc on Wednesday presented medical equipment to the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital in Accra.

The donation worth about US$100,000, constituted two GE ultrasound scanners and a GE anaesthesia machine, which were presented to the Radiology Department and the Obstetrics and Gynaecology unit of the Anaesthesia Department.

These will supplement the existing equipment at the two departments and help reduce the pressures on them as Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital serves is the leading referral centre in Ghana.

Presently, the radiology department has only two out of its four ultrasound machines working whilst some theatres have been shut down due to limited anaesthesia machines.

Gregory Metcalf, MD of Accra Brewery Limited, during the presentation said, “As a caring business that has always sought to support the communities surrounding our business, we felt that if the leading national referral hospital needed us we could not say no.”

He also added that “We know that our donation will make a huge difference in the provision of services at the Radiology and Anaesthesia departments.”

Metcalf assured the hospital of Accra Brewery’s willingness to continue to help when called upon to do so.

The Chief Executive Officer of the hospital, Professor Nii Otu Nartey expressed sincere gratitude for the gesture by the management of Accra Brewery Limited.

He stated that, “The acquisition of the modern machines will not only save lives of patients in Ghana but many in the West-African sub-region.”

“These machines, will among others, provide quality diagnostic imaging services to patients in the hospital and support the hospital in achieving excellence in healthcare delivery,” he added.

Professor Nii Otu Nartey assured Accra Brewery that the machines would be properly managed in order for them to last for a long time. He also appealed to other corporate bodies to support the hospital in any appreciable way.**
