Abdul Rashid Fuseini Eyes Black Stars Dream

Slovenia-based midfielder Abdul Rashid Fuseini has set his sights on representing Ghana’s senior national team, the Black Stars, calling it the ultimate goal of his career.

The 21-year-old, who previously donned Ghana’s jersey at the U17 level during the 2018 WAFU tournament in Niger, is optimistic about his chances despite acknowledging the competitive nature of the senior team.

“Right now, that’s my main goal, to play for the Black Stars,” Fuseini shared in an interview with Joy Sports. “When you see a Black Star stamp on your profile, it’s something that makes you proud. We just have to work hard, keep trying, and see. Some may get it early; some later.”

Fuseini’s journey to professional football is marked by resilience. Hailing from Tamale, he was scouted by Accra’s Shooting Stars during a national U15 camp. His talent earned him trials at major English clubs, including Sheffield United, Wolves, Manchester United, and Brentford. However, age restrictions thwarted his chances at securing contracts.

The midfielder eventually signed with Serbian club Backa Topola before moving to Slovenian side NK Tabor in 2023. Over the past two seasons, he has been working diligently to rebuild his career and stay on course for a potential Black Stars call-up.

While his dream remains a work in progress, Fuseini’s determination underscores his belief in the adage that perseverance can turn aspirations into reality.
