A/R: GHS5K bounty on cop’s killers’ heads

The Ashanti regional police have placed a GHC5,000 bounty on the heads of some suspected armed robbers who shot and killed a police officer on Thursday May 19.

The deceased, corporal Frank Essel, from the SWAT unit/Ashanti, was killed when the robbers went to the Open Space Hotel at Denkyembouso, a suburb of Kumasi, and robbed their victims of some valuables.

A male receptionist at the hotel was injured in the process.

The police service, in a statement signed by Public Relation Officer of the Ashanti regional police (ASP) Mohammed Yusif Tanko, has called on the general public and anyone with credible information on the suspected robbers to report to the regional police command for swift action.

The police service has, however, urged the public to remain calm as officers continue their search for the suspected robbers.

Meanwhile, the remains of the deceased corporal have been deposited at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital morgue while the injured person is currently receiving treatment at the Accident and Emergency Unit of the same hospital while investigations continue.
