A 20-year old electrician jailed for stealing

The Winneba District Magistrate Court has sentenced a 20-year old electrician to eight months imprisonment in hard labour for stealing Samsung Galaxy phone.

Kofi Mensah a native of Winneba pleaded guilty and he was convicted on his own plea by the court presided over by Mr. Charles Owusu Nsiah.

Prosecution Detective Police Sargent Peter Agbelie told the court that the complainant of the case is a student of the University of Education Winneba residing in a private hostel in Winneba.

He said in October last year the accused person visited the complaint in his private hostel and introduced himself as an electrician who came around to worked for a colleague student in the same hotel .

The prosecution said after the introduction the complainant asked him to fix a damaged electrical socket for her which he did, and also took away a Samsung Galaxy Ace Mobile phone belonging to the complaint.

Detective Sgt. Agbelie said all efforts made by the complainant to trace the whereabouts of the accused person failed.

He said the accused later visited the hotel again to work for another colleague but he was apprehended on his arrival and handed over to the police and in his cautioned statement he admitted the offence and was arraigned.
