Rainstorm causes havoc

Kade, (E/R) Feb. 08, GNA – Five private saloon cars belonging to some staff of the Ghana Commercial Bank, Kade were on Wednesday damaged by flying roofs of a building damaged by a heavy downpour at Kade in the Kwaebibirem district. The cars were made up of a Mercedez Benz, a Nizzan Primera, 2 Opel Vectra and a VW Golf.

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency at Kade, Mr. Isaac Aidoo, owner of the Mercedez Benz said the incident occurred between the hours of 1600 hours and 1700 hours during which the staff of the bank were on duty. Eye witnesses said that the incident occurred when the roofing of a newly-built two-storey mission house of the Kade Presbyterian Church got ripped off during the heavy rainstorm. The roofing was carried by the strong storm to a distance of about three hundred metres away from the mission house, flying over buildings in the area; destroying some of them in the process and finally hit the two-storey building of the Kade Ghana Commercial Bank and landed on some of the cars of the staff parked in front of the bank. Mr. Yaw Yiadom Boakye, the Kwaebibirem District Chief Executive, with some officers of the Kwaebibirem District National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) visited the scene to acquaint themselves with the damages caused by the rainstorm.

He expressed concern at the plight of the victims and assured them of the necessary measures by his office and NADMO to ameliorate their suffering by providing them with the necessary assistance.
