CJA cautions against video footages

Accra, Jan 23, GNA – The Committee for Joint Action (CJA on Wednesday said it would not hesitate to take court action against the Government if it continued to use the Committee’s footages for the ‘Talk Tax’ advertisement.

A statement signed by Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa of CJA said it had noticed with indignation the Government’s use of the video footages of the public demonstration organised by the CJA to advertise and seek to justify the imposition of ‘Talk Tax’ on the people of Ghana. The statements said the advertisement was deceitful, dubious and misrepresented the CJA and what it stood for. “The demonstrations have always been in protests against Government taxation and thus cannot be used to justify taxation”, he statement added.

It said the preposterous and awkward economic theory that the solution to unemployment was more taxation was falsehood and the CJA did not believe in that theory. The statement said the advertisement misleadingly represents the position that CJA supports imposition of taxes and that the CJA believed that the solutions to the issues they were protesting against depended on imposition of taxes.

It warned all television stations in Ghana against the wrongful use of the video footages, since they could be held liable for misrepresentation of the issue at stake.
