Union Accuses Rectors

Accra, Jan. 16, GNA – The Teachers and Educational Workers’ Union (TEWU) of the Ghana Trades Union Congress has accused the Conference of Polytechnic Rectors (COPR) for failing to convene a meeting for the review of conditions of service of polytechnics staff. A letter signed by Mr Daniel Ayim Antwi, General Secretary of the union, to the Chairman of the COPR, expressed the union’s disappointment at CORPS’ failure to convene a meeting of the Standing Negotiating Committee for the “consideration of our proposal” brought before the Chairman since Tuesday, September 25, 2007. It said if by the close of work on Thursday, January 24, 2008, COPR failed to make it possible for negotiations to begin “we shall be compelled to refer the matter to the National Labour Commission”.
